Print Trends spotted at Juicy Couture
Floral prints are nothing new for Spring. Every year these nature inspired themes are in bloom when the seasons begin to change from cold to warm. I’ve never really been much of a fan of floral prints, however, a new perspective on the trend just may have changed my mind.
Floral and Neon Mix at Juicy Couture
A fresh take I recently spotted for this trend featured it being mixed with the hot neon color trend of the season. Pairing a vibrant floral print with neon colored pieces is a sure way to make a statement outfit that is sure to grab attention. As seen in my photo above, a vibrant top is best paired with a lighter shade of neon, like that yellow. The hot pink bag is just the ticket to pump up the color to a higher level and finish off the ensemble. I think I’ve even convinced myself to try out this mix, how about you?
In this installment of New York City Shopping Hot Spots, we’re heading uptown, to the Upper East Side to be more precise. Centered around one of the city’s historic landmark department stores is another one of my favorite shopping destinations.
Bloomingdale’s at 59th Street
While the city has many department stores, all unique in their own way and catering to their respective target markets, Bloomingdale’s gets my vote for the city’s best. What catches my attention about Bloomingadale’s is its mix of luxury and contemporary brands, not to mention a fabulous cosmetics floor! The surrounding area around 59th Street and Lexington Avenue, is also home to lots of famous retailers including Urban Outfitters, Diesel, Victoria’s Secret, Sephora, and Aldo, among others. Once your day of shopping is complete, there are plenty of near by cafes and restaurants to relax and unwind in.
meeting Lauren Conrad at a book signing in NY
Lauren Conrad first came into the spotlight with MTV’s Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, and then had her own spin of The Hills, which followed her life as she started her career in fashion. Since then she has developed her effortlessly chic sense of style, has started the LC Lauren Conrad collection at Kohl’s and contemporary Paper Crown line. She has also written several books, including one on style in which she shares many of her fashion tips and tricks.
Lauren continues to be an It Girl, partly because of her keen sense of fashion and partly because she has a very relatable quality about her. She’s on the covers of the May Glamour and People Style Watch. Her style continues to inspire my fashion choices and purchases. I know I’ll keep following Lauren to see what comes next for this modern day style icon!
New York City is filled with fabulously stylish people and phenomenal shopping. In honor of that simple fact, I thought it would be fun to share an inside look at my personal guide to the Big Apple’s best shopping destinations.
5th Avenue in the Flatiron District
The Flatiron District along Fifth Avenue is at the top of this list, particularly the stretch between about 23rd to 16th streets. This area is far less touristy than the mid to uptown parts of the avenue and has a real neighborhood vibe. Best of all, it has a fantastic combination of high-end to moderately priced labels and shops. Some of these include BCBG Max Azria, Intermix, Michael Kors, Zara, and Express. Even the mass market retailers have a boutique like feel in this area. In this neighborhood you’ll find everything you need to put together the latest head to toe looks, minus the hassles of midtown crowds.
The Denim or Chambray Shirt has been having quite a fashion moment this season. It is certainly a piece that has been trending, from high end retailers to mass market chain stores. Versions of the look can be seen in Bloomingdale’s, Zara, and The Gap, just to name a few. I’ve seen many takes on this trend, fitted styles, loose fits, and everything in between. There is something about this trend that reminds me of growing up in the 90’s, when every sitcom character and everyone’s mom had some version of the look. It was also probably the last time Denim and Chambray tops had this much attention. Maybe I’m feeling a little nostalgic, but I think I might give this trend a spin.
Denim Shirt at Diesel on 5th Avenue
I’m kind of obsessed with beauty products. Which is why, Sephora is one of my favorite destinations for many of the cosmetic brands I absolutely adore. So, of course I signed up as a Beauty Insider. It’s this fun free program that helps you rack up points on all your purchases, earn free samples, and even a bonus birthday gift. As my birthday was just over a week ago, I was all too eager to see what this year’s gift would be. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a Fresh mini lip duo! Almost as a nod to the 80’s trend, the packaging has Sugar Kisses printed on it, a lyric from the popular “Lips Like Sugar” song of that era. After trying this mini lip duo, I found that the color goes on as a nice rosy tint and the balm helps keep lips moist. Surprisingly, the sweet scent of the balm also reminds me of summers spent on the Adriatic Coast with hints of surf and sun.
One of the things I’m really enjoying about this Spring so far, is all the the fun optimistic colors. Pastels are definitely having a fashion moment! From the minty greens to the bubble gum pinks, the pale yellows and the sky blues. All of these pops of color kind of remind of Easter Eggs and cupcake frosting. These soft shades also fit perfectly with all the lady like styles showing up everywhere this season, from dresses to blazers. I’m sure even Gossip Girls’ Blair Waldorf would approve of the lady like silhouettes and soft hues taking center stage this Spring. Is everyone loving this trend as much as I am?
